Cannot Open Facebook Friends and Photos

I followed Josh's suggestion and reset Internet Explorer but it did not work. So I am following up on my original question hoping you can come up with another suggestion. My problem is that when I go on the public page of Facebook of people, I cannot open up friends and photos (on the left side of their public facebook screen) which I was able to do before. Please reply. Thanks.

when I do what josh suggested to reset Internet Explorer as far as the Facebook public page of people goes - nothing happens. Additionally, now I noticed that I cannot confirm a friend's request to be a friend of mine on Facebook. What do you think? please reply.

Ok in short it is caused by a corruption in flash and sometimes the shockwave player. You need to uninstall flash from your computer and then install the latest version. You must do it with the uninstaller. Then you need to run the shockwave updater/installer making sure it is the only window opened.

Outlook 2007 Locking Up

Outlook 2007 keeps locking up. I ran diagnosis and no problems found.

When it locks up does it give you an error and if it does what is the exact error including any numbers?
Does it ever open completely or does it lock up before that?

I am using windows 7 64 bit. It does open up completely. It usually locks up after I make make my first action. For example- it is usually fully functional when I re-open and I can open an email and reply then it locks and stops responding. I then open task manager to shut it down. Sometimes an error does pop up however when I open it to read the codes- it quickly goes away as it comes up on the shut down.

Ok click on start. Then in the search box type in "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" without the quotes. The space must be there as well as the period and / symbol. Some nav pane customizations can cause this to happen. That command will reset the navigation pane and hopefully stop the error.

Notepad Is Frozen

I did the most recent OS upgrade (after upgrade HP did not notify to restart), and went to an app. The screen is now locked at the app login - nothing is changing including the time and power - that was nearly 48 hours ago

good question.... it is a HP TouchPad with HP's WebOS. I do not know the latest version - it came out Thursday

1. Hold top sleep button for 5 sec
2. Continue holding top sleep button AND hold bottom home button until the device turns off (maybe 10 sec)
3. reboot the device by holding top button until you see HP icon.

Where Can I Download Songs Besides Rhapsody?

From where can I download songs besides Rhapsody? I had an iPod until it was stolen & I'd like to be able to transfer my purchased songs from iTunes onto my Sansa MP3 but don't know how to get them onto Media Player. My first Sansa Fuze stopped working but I didn't like paying Rhapsody $15/mo anyway. Sansa's earbuds are far superior to iPod's so I got another, but I'd prefer to pay for songs as I go.

Forgot Windows XP Password

I forget my password and I cant sign on to my computer what do I do to bypass the prompt to sign on to XP? Already Tried: every password i have ever used and i just cant seem to remember.

Restart the computer and as it is starting up continuously tap F8.
It will bring you to a menu choose safe mode from the menu.
Then log into the administrator account that shows up there.
Click on start and then control panel.
Click on user accounts and then click on the account you forgot the password for.
Click on remove password and then restart the computer normally.
You will no longer need a password to log in.

HP LaserJet 2840 Scanner Error 5

CUSTOMER-

I just started to get the Scanner error code 5 on my HP All-In-One Color LaserJet 2840. It says to "turn off then turn on" but I have done that numerous times and when it starts up the scanner light warms up(it sits to the right side of the glass and does light up) but then, one hears a clicking or grating sound, the scanner light does not move and then the same error code appears. I can receive faxes, print in black and white in color but I can't scan, copy or send faxes as the unit will not scan due to this error code. How do I fix it?

I didn't open the computer's data info window for this machine but it shows up on the printer window and despite numerous off-on cycles it still reverts to this error message. I can get this all-in-one unit to print in color or black and white and I can receive faxes and print them out when they are sent to my machine. It is the scanner function that is inoperable and this prevents any copier function, scanner function to the computer and I can't send faxes as it doesn't scan the data to allow a fax to be sent. It is clearly in the HP 2840 and I did look on the internet and there are numerous articles and U-Tube videos on this problem but I didn't find a solution so I contacted your company to see if you had a remedy.

Remove the right side panel (when facing the machine) by removing two screws from the bottom. There is a small white port with cables that can be removed and then reinserted. Disconnect that cable and then connect it again.

Start Up and Shut Down Getting Longer

CUSTOMER-

I meed advice. Over the last 3 weeks Start Up and Shut Down have been getting longer and longer and I have found in the "update history" , the update KB 2556532 has neen loaded 43 times. If I check on "installed updates" {as a means of deleating} I get the massage "no updates are installed on this computer". I have been through registry checkers and variations of Msconfig gut but the situation remains.

Must I do a complete reinstal, or can you assist me?

Windows pc running windows 7 home 32 . I have installed imesh which took controle of my browsers so I deleted it. Concrning the KB 2556532 problem. I have noticed that each time I shut the pc down it reloads this update.

Ok that is most likely where the problem is coming from then as that update is causing the computer to hang.
Click on start and type in update into the search box.
Then click on windows update.
Click on check for updates.
It should show something like 1 update.
Click on that to show the list of updates.
Then right click on that update and click on don't install/don't show or hide.

Answer did solve problem as I get no reaction if I right dlick. If I left ckick I get the message that uodate has been down loaded and I must click to instal. As I already have
if many times I did not click.

Make sure you left click on it so it is highlighted before right clicking on it.
Then click on hide.
Turning off automatic update should accomplish the same thing.
To do that open the window where you clicked on check for new updates.
Then on the left click on change settings.
Change it from automatic to check for updates but let me choose when to download and install them.

Have done as you instructed and the upgate is now hidden but I still have the three problems I mentuined in my first question.
1, slow start up 3 min,5 secs.
2 slow shut down 2min 45 secs.
3. cannot deleat the 35 updates KB 2556532 As the message I get is that there ar no updates on this pc.

Open the window where you clicked on check for new updates.
Then on the left click on change settings.
Change it from automatic to check for updates but let me choose when to download and install them.

Then click on start and in the search box type in msconfig and press enter.
Click on the startup tab.
Uncheck anything that does not say Microsoft, realtek, or nvidia as the manufacturer.
If your antivirus is listed there leave that checked as well and then click on apply.

Click start and then on all programs
Then click on accessories and then system tools
Run the disc clean up and then empty the recycle bin on the desktop
Once you have done that go back to system tools again
Now run the disk defragmenter it's going to take a little while

After that uninstall any programs you don't need from the uninstall a program option in the control panel.
If you don't know what a program is leave it installed.

Once it is installed restart your computer and continuously tap F8
Choose safe mode from the menu and log into windows
Then open malware bytes and run a full system scan
Click on show results and then remove anything that it finds
After that restart the computer normally

Then click start in the search box type in cmd
Right click on command prompt and click on run as administrator even if you are one
Type this exactly the way I have it including spaces
CHKDSK /f /r
Then press enter on the keyboard and a message will come up
It will say something about a restart or a reboot
Type in Y and press enter on the keyboard
Then restart the computer and let that finish

After that restart the computer twice.
It is normal for the first restart after doing all of this to be slow as it will be completing some of the uninstalls as well as the CHKDSK changes if any were made.
The second should be quicker.
The CHKDSK should also help with the problem

Canon Pixma MG5220 Excessive Noise

My Canon Pixma MG5220 is making excessive noise; it sounds like gears grinding. Can you tell me if and how I can lubricate the gears? I am a skilled precision instrument designer and maker.

Turn the machine off then unplug it and disconnect the usb cable (if there is one connected if not skip any USB cable steps).
Remove all paper from the machine and then blow out the feed roller and paper tray thoroughly with compressed air three or four times.
Once done plug in back in and insert a single sheet of paper.
Turn the machine on and then connect the usb cable. Then please test the machine and see if the problem is still there.

If it is next remove all the paper from the machine.
Then with a flashlight look very closely at both the paper feed roller, as well as inside the machine around the ink cartridges.
Something as small as a pin stuck in either area could cause this problem.

Remove all the ink cartridges from the machine
Then clean the contacts on the cartridges as well as inside the machine itself
Do this with a small amount of warm water on a cotton swab until no ink comes off on the swab
If any of the other cartridges are low, empty, leaking or bulging replace them
Then turn off the machine and unplug it for 70 seconds
Plug it back it and wait for the insert cartridges message
Insert the cartridges and check to see if the problem is still there

If after all that the problem is still there you need to remove the top part of the machine to get to the cogs. Once you do lubricate them with silcon oil do not use anything else.


CUSTOMER-

I failed to tell you that my printer is working perfectly fine; it is just the grinding noise it has been making for about 2 weeks now. Do your recommendations still hold, or do you want to review them in light of my comment?

Windows Live Mail Error ID 0x80ccc19

I am attempting to use Windows 7 Live mail to access my email server at Windstream.net & keep getting" windows Live Mail Error ID 0x80ccc19" upon timeout of server access. Have verified with Windstream Tech support that my inputs are correct. Pls Advise. I can access emails via my windows Vista computer & Ipod touch w/o any probles.

That is not good you should only use one as they will conflict with each other. Whichever you choose both have email scanners which can cause this error. Open whichever you decide to keep and go to the real time shields. Turn off scanning for both incoming and outgoing emails. Then test it again.

Setting Saved Do Not Match The Requirements Of The Network

Our computer crashed and stables replaced the hard drive. When I look at the wireless display in my area my Linksys shows an X. When I click on the link it says: The setting saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network. We have forgotten our security password as well.

The first thing we need to do is get your networks password.
To do that on the computer you are on now go to this page: Click Here
Then by default for the username leave it blank and password use admin
Click on wireless and then wireless security.
Your networks password and any security keys should show here.

Now for the windows 7 computer. Click on start and then on control panel.
Click on network and internet. Then click on network and sharing center.
Now on the left click on manage wireless networks.
Click on your network so it is highlighted then click on remove.
After that go back to the network and sharing center.
Then click on connect to a network and connect to your network using the password you just got (if it does not work and there were security keys try one of the security keys).

Voip is a type of phone service like vinage for example. What type of phone service do you use or who is the phone service provider?

the phone service provider is Bezeq (in Israel)  The fax line is plugged into a wall jack

Please look at the ends of the phone cable are they clear? If they are you should be able to see how many copper ends there are, are there two or four?

Ok thank you that is most likely the problem them. The HP fax machines are designed to work with 2 conductor cables what you have is a 4 conductor cable. You can tell by looking at the copper ends the way you just did. Switch it with one that has 2 copper leads and you should get a dial tone.

I may have made a mistake. When answering you I had only check the cable that plugs into the wall jack, which has 4 copper conductors. I just checked the cable that connects to the fax and it is a 2 conductor cable. Now what?

Both sides of the cable should have 2, and the fax should be connected directly into the wall socket without anything else. Is that how it is connected?

It is connected through a splitter, one line for the phone and the other for the ADSL

Ok that could cause a problem as well do you have another jack you could run a line to? And for right now to test if the splitter is the problem can you connect directly into the jack without using the splitter and see if you get a dial tone?

HP C4750 Extension Stuck

HP C4750 I have pulled out the extension for over sized paper. And now I can't push it back in. How can I do that?

There may be something near the machine itself on the extension you need to push down in order for it to slide back in. Make sure you look on the bottom as well usually it is something small that pops out and when you touch it, it should push back in.

I've tried to see or feel "something" on the machine or extension. But can't seem to find that latch or stopper or whatever is!!!

Is it the thin extension in the front? If it is you may not actually have anything like that to put it in you would hold the back and then push it. It will take a small amount of force.

Sending Email To A Large Number Of People

I am trying to send an email to a large number of people, all family and friends, who would be interesting in reading an article that my nephew wrote about the book that he wrote, which is called Following Ezra. For whatever reason, Yahoo refuses to send; perhaps because of the number of people I am sending the email to. Please help; I want to send the article NOW.

I copied & pasted the message on a new Email and sent it to 5 people, and it worked. Methinks that the answer is to send to only a few at a time; otherwise, it appears to be spam. You saved me a lot of time, and enough anxiety to fill a big hole. Thanks SO much!

Your welcome, The best thing to do is keep it under 25 people at a time. Yahoo has been having problems with spammers so anything that sends to more than 25 can get flagged. The same thing can happen if you send out to many emails in one day. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Remove all the ink cartridges from the machine
Then clean the contacts on the cartridges as well as inside the machine itself

I can't get the cartridge carrier to move as it it locked on the right hand side of the machine. The message that there are parts on the machine that require servicing keeps coming up, but a friend of mine apparently founfd a code number or something that did away with this message and allowed the printer to work? Do you have any suggestions before I bin this machine.

Open the cartridge access and look at them with a flashlight. Make sure nothing is blocking there path then look at the top of them. Make sure the tabs above the cartridges did not open up if they did you will need to use something long and thin to hold them down while it moves. Then look beneath it there is a small sponge like pad that will sometimes come up and get stuck on the bottom. if it is using your finger push it back down. It will be covered in ink so I would use gloves. If it still has not moved turn the machine off and unplug it. Then manually move the cradle back and forth along the guide bar 3 or 4 times. After that leave it in the middle plug the machine back in and turn it on.

Ok let's try a restore then.
If you use McAfee or Norton temporarily disable them or it will prevent this from working.
Click on start and in the search box type in restore.
Then click on system restore in the list.
Let it open and then near the bottom click on show more restore points.
Choose a restore point at least one day or more before this started.

it worked till i turned protected mode on now its the same as it was

when i put my mouse on it = double click to change security settings
then i double clicked and Internet security and then on Internet and then un-tick the box that said enable protected mode

It sounds like you may be using an older version of Internet explorer which is causing the problem. Please restore again so that you can get it opened and working. Then download and install Internet explorer 9 from Microsoft.com after that the problem should go away.
